Natures Bounty in Tapestries
Since the medieval period, starting in the 10th century or so, we are introduced to nature’s bounty in tapestries. Early medieval tapestries are strewn with flowers throughout. The detailed style of wall tapestry weaving in medieval tapestries resulted in what is known as ‘mille-fleur’, or a thousand flowers. Since medieval tapestries lacked depth and perspective, with all the information on one plane, the method used to differentiate the background from the foreground was to have the entire space between the figure work strewn with thousands of tiny flowers, weeds, and sometimes small animals. Since figures were the largest items on the wall hanging tapestry, it gave the viewer a message, that the small stuff (flowers) was the background, and the big stuff (figure work) was the foreground.
Harvest was a central theme in medieval tapestries. For example the grape harvest and wine pressing in tapestries along with other harvest themes was important to the populace, since a plentiful harvest meant there would be no starvation.
It wasn’t until the Renaissance, in the late 1400’s that depth and perspective was introduced into the art world by Giotto and Masaccio in Italy.
The world of presenting a foreground, and background entered the world of art and subsequently into the wall tapestry world. Suddenly we start seeing buildings and trees laden with fruit in the background, animals and people in the foreground, and bowls of fruit or dead game as centerpieces.
As we move into the later part of the Renaissance, nature’s bounty starts to come to life. Suddenly we start to experience harvest’s bounty of fruit and vegetables in the borders of Belgium tapestries, and as central themes, the harvesting of grain, fruit and vegetables as well as the slaughter of fattened animals in preparation for the long, cold, hard winter months ahead. Italian tapestries started to show the Italians at work gathering the crops or butchering animals. An example of a hand woven tapestry from the early Italian period is called ‘The Harvesters’ and can be viewed at Heirloom European Tapestries. The harvest scene shows peasants at work harvesting and winnowing the grain. The border of this wall tapestry is dense with flowers and fruit. Another hand woven tapestry called ‘The Wine Harvest’, which can be viewed on the same site, shows a noble lady tasting the grape juice from the wine harvest that is going on around her.
By the time we step into the 17th and 18th century, nature’s bounty in tapestries had become central themes. Borders became overly ornate, overflowing with cornucopia, vegetables, fruit, animals, flowers and sheaves of grain. Some start to overflow their borders into the center panel of the wall tapestry. Forest and nature scenes with long views and meandering paths in mysterious forests start to gain popularity in large tapestries. Italian tapestries start to boast scenic views of villa gardens and Tuscan lakes and streams. French tapestries take on views of chateaux with long panoramic views leading to the main house or detailed harvest scenes. A classic series devoted to cycle of the seasons, twelve in total, depicting a different month of the year. This French tapestries series is called the ‘Months of Lucas’ and can be viewed on the Heirloom European Tapestries web site.
Landscape tapestries took a prominent position in the wall hanging tapestry world for almost 200 years. By the time we reach the 19th century, William Morris brought nature’s bounty into European tapestries with his famous acanthus leaf motifs (large swirling leaves) and his finely detailed tapestries, such as ‘The Tree of Life’, and is very reminiscent of the medieval tapestries. So, by the 19th century, woven tapestries had come the full cycle, history repeating itself from the ‘mille-fleur’ medieval tapestries to the William Morris tapestries of nature’s bounty.

Works for me…,
I have been taking these for about 3 months now and notice a real difference. My hair was getting very thin and lifeless and my nails were aweful due to years of acrylic nails. It only took about 2 1/2 months for my nails to grow out and look great. My hair seems to be much healthier too!

|Love, Love, Love This Product,
I have done a lot of research, both online and in stores, trying to find the one company that included all the key ingredients for growing healthy hair and nails. So far no other brand seems to do that like Nature’s Bounty does. I agree that the tablets could be a little easier to swallow, but the end result is worth it.
